A few good reasons for learning Russian:
- Communication
Russian is spoken as first language by over 160 million people
mostly in Russia and states having belonged to the Soviet
Republic. It was also widely taught as second language in Warsaw
Pact countries of Eastern and Central Europe.
- Business & Education
Russian is one of the official languages of the United Nations
and an important business and trading language in the countries
of the former Soviet Republic.
- Culture & Entertainment
Russian is an important cultural language and many literary masterpieces
have been written in Russian. Tolstoy, Dostoyevsky,
Gogol, Pushkin or Anton Chekhov have all
written in Russian. There is a lively tradition of Russian language
pop music culminating in chart breaking tatu, a thriving
film industry ever since after Sergej Eisenstein and heaps
of traditional dancing and music.
